OVERALL:
A small family, but very warm hearted. Catherine stays at home most of the time, taking care of Sarah and making sure that things are all well on the homestead. Kelly, Kelley, and Ali are often making sure the cattle get to good grazing grounds. Sometimes, they’re gone for weeks at a time, but it is worth the time gone. Often, when going on a long drive, Kelly will request his brother “Chuck” come along and help.
When gone on the long drives, Alison is sure to inform her teachers so she can pick up the homework she’ll need while she’s gone. She has a regular B+ average in most classes, save for English where she excels. She gets along well with her family for the most part, only ever fighting with her mother. She received a Dodge for her sixteenth birthday, and drives the truck to school every day that is there. When she was fourteen, a terrible thing happened.
She had been sitting in her favorite recliner in the living room, reading a book on Venice when she heard the fighting begin. In her parent’s room, there was a commotion. So, as any curious kid would, Ali dog-eared the page and snuck around the corner to eaves drop. Her parents were on opposite sides of the bed. Her dad was calling her mother a slut; she did something bad. Ali strained to hear better, and then wished she hadn’t. She had known about her dad’s cancer, and tried her best to take care of the ranch for him. Everyone tried to help out, usually. Where did she have the time? Her mother was almost always out in the barn, milking, so she had thought. Alison stood and scrambled back to the living room, curling up in the chair as angry tear roamed freely down her face. Her mother had cheated on her father, and was pregnant.
Ali kept this to herself, though many people in town knew about Catherine’s bad move. She hated her mother for it; for hurting her father, hurting Ali, and for ruining the family. Her father seemed to be a hollow man, and it killed her to watch her mother take care of Sarah, knowing she wasn’t her father’s daughter. Ali took care of her dad as he grew weaker and weaker, and soon couldn’t stand for long from his recliner. When she isn’t on a cattle drive or at school, she is at home, tending the ranch and taking care of her father.

ROLEPLAY SAMPLE:(240 words)It was late, somewhere around four in the morning, when Ali crawled in her bedroom window. She was soaking wet from head to toe, but in the hot, early-morning air the cold press of her wet T-shirt and jeans felt just perfect. She sighed softly as she struggled out of the clothes’ vice grip and got ready to go to sleep. Once free of the sopping wet attire from hours previous, she wandered to her dresser and picked through the clothes, withdrawing an overly-large T-shirt and pair of underwear to sleep in. She pulled on the dry clothes and plopped on her bed, staring at her ceiling in hopes that sleep would come quickly.
For a time, sleep graced her with its presence, but only to be shaken off as a lone howl echoed off the house, barn, and stable. Something was close, and it sounded triumphant. Ali sat up, listening out her bedroom window for any signs of distress. The seconds seemed to drag on forever before she heard what she had been looking for. She jumped out of bed and scrambled to her parents’ room, shaking her dad awake. “Dad! There’s a coyote in with the herd,” she whispered loudly, trying not to wake her mother. With those words, her father was up and heading for his gun with a colorful grumble. As she heard him cock the gun, she knew: the coyote wouldn’t be bothering them anymore.
